Next Weekend, I Want To Do Nothing.

What a weekend.

I worked a half day (woohoo) and headed over to Tyler's. We had a big night planned. We were going to the casino!! I had scored a free night stay, two buffets, slot play... definitely was going to take advantage of that!

We scooted off to the casino so we could check in shortly after check-in time. When asked if we wanted a low floor or a high floor, Tyler enthusiastically said he wanted a high floor. We anticipated that to be like the 5th floor. Nope. Up to the 14th floor we went!!
We both had a wee bit of luck gambling the night away. We even participated in a slot tournament - which is kind of a joke. It's not really a tournament. It's a "see who can hit the button the fastest and get lucky with their spins" kind of event. But whatever. It was kind of funny.

The buffet was ok. Buffets are always hard on someone who is dieting and their salad bar wasn't the best I've been to, so that was kind of disappointing. But, I did my best. And they had French Macarons for dessert. I couldn't say no. Twice.

We didn't have any huge luck, but we held our own, and we had a lot of fun.

We had to check out of the casino hotel by 11, drive the 45 minutes to my house with a stop in between to the grocery store (which I DON'T recommend doing the day before Easter), and then cook/bake food for Game Night with our friends.

Obligatory friend selfie for on FB
Game night was a hoot. We played the Logo Game, Jenga, Dominos, had a couple of drinks and ate some yummy food.

Tyler and I didn't get home until after midnight so we were tired and zonked out almost immediately.

Sunday - Easter
The weather in the Twin Cities on Easter was AMAZING! 75 degrees with a slight breeze and sunny. Couldn't have asked for better weather!

Tyler surprised me in the morning with an Easter basket filled with my ALL TIME FAVORITE candy, Peeps!
And, of course, a zombie movie
We went to my parent's house for the family Easter brunch at 11 and by 3 we were jetting the 40 minutes to Tyler's parents for some outside cocktailing time and dinner.

We didn't get home to Tyler's until after 8pm. What a freaking weekend. I felt like we were going nonstop. But, it was great. Good times spent with family and friends, good food, a few laughs. I couldn't ask for anything better.

Except this coming weekend... I just want to veg out. And maybe go bowling. :)

Weightloss. It can be done.

Hey all!

Wanted to quick stop in, say hi, all that good stuff.

The last few weeks have gone by SO darn fast. Work has been keeping me busy, my weekends are spent with Tyler, evenings I've been meal prepping, working out, doing things around the house.

I bought a new car....

Happened to buy it the day before a day of snowy hell. We made it through just fine :)
There's not a whole lot of sitting around going on anymore. Thank goodness. My ass is definitely thanking me. Haha

That brings me to my update. A couple months ago I made the goal to continue on with losing weight this year. The last 6 weeks or so I've been really focusing on it. I make sure to treat myself on occasion, I don't get too down on myself if I "slip up" and I try to keep things fresh and interesting.

Let me tell you. Dieting while dating? It's work. A lot of work. But it really helps having a supportive counterpart cheering you on and it pays off. If you really try, you can make dining out (and treating yourself a little) fit in just fine.

Today, I was down 3.4lbs. So right now, I'm sitting at 12.8lbs down since I started working towards losing weight again.

Some people may think 12.8lbs isn't much. How about 56.4lbs? Because that's how much weight I've lost since I was at my highest.

I'd call that success.

A week ago we celebrated my sister in law's 30th birthday. That included a nice dinner out - including appetizers, steak, awesome sweet potato hash browns, chocolate birthday cake... and cocktails. That week, I stayed the exact same as the week before (not bad considering my dining disaster only a few days beforehand).

I was determined to make this last week count. And I did.

I meal prepped for breakfast and lunch.

Yes, yes. Need the Redd's and Fox Barrel, too.

I went on my first solo walk down at Tyler's (and it was a really pretty walk, complete with albino squirrel sighting). It was cold, and I totally miscalculated the complete uphill walk home.... but I managed.

I treated myself. A little bit.

I am fitting in everything I really want to into my life. And I'm working towards my goal, and succeeding. People think that dieting is an "ender". "There goes your social life." "You're always going to feel hungry." "You'll eventually quit." You're wrong.

Dieting isn't fun. It's a pain in the ass. It's hard work. You WILL cry. You'll get angry. You'll feel sorry for yourself. You'll want to quit. You'll slip up (more than once). You'll get frustrated. But if you stick with it, you will succeed... and you will celebrate.

So today, I'm celebrating those 12.8lbs. Not with food or drink. But I am celebrating by having a great attitude and great motivation to do even more. And of course, going to the gym.

Happy Tuesday, all!

As I mentioned a while back, I signed up for Phone Case of the Month. If you're not familiar, it's basically a subscription box for phone cases. For $10/month (including shipping) you receive a case for your phone in the mail (with a few extras tossed in).

The cases are surprisingly a pretty decent quality. I've been using them non-stop since I received my first case.

Here's what I got month #2:

Peacock feather! I've actually gotten a lot of compliments on the case. I like that it doesn't add a bunch of bulk onto my phone (as it's big enough by itself already) and the case doesn't just fly off if I drop the phone (whoops!).

Overall, I'd definitely recommend Phone Case of the Month.

As I said in my first post about PCOTM, they actually have a really nice referral program. If you use my link below, YOU save $5 on your first case... making your first one only 5 bucks! In turn, I also save $5 on my next. It's a win-win.

Katie's PCOTM Referral Link

Take it or leave it. I of course won't force you to use it, I'd just appreciate if you did. :)

Anyway, thought I'd share this little beauty with you! I should really do more subscription box reviews as I do get a variety of them....

*I'm not getting compensated in any way to do this review (heck, I'm not that popular). I just find PCOTM to be a fun subscription box (and I'm mildly addicted). All opinions are of course, my own*

Happy Thursday, all!

I keep making excuses on why I've been MIA from my blog. I really don't have good reasons aside from... I haven't really wanted to take the time to do it. I have other things going on. Things that don't take place in front of a computer. I prefer those kinds of things.

But I do like blogging.

Oh, the conflict.

Life has been good, really good.

Got through a huge annual project at work. It was an "all hands on deck" kind of things, but after about a month of solid work, we got it out the door with a few hours to spare. Yes, I said hours.

I spend basically every Friday at 4pm - Monday at 7am with Tyler. That's a pretty big chunk of my week, and honestly, I wouldn't change a thing. Things between us are pretty easy, and we manage to have a pretty good time. Family time, Wild hockey games, movies, video games, bowling, cruising out and about... it's all good. What can I say? The guy makes me smile. That's huge.

Another Wild game!
I'll probably hear about posting this one.

So I've been tracking my food pretty darn well, trying to keep on keepin' on. Lately I've been cooking with cabbage. Kind of weird... I hated it as a kid. HATED. Now I love the stuff. And it's the St. Patrick's time of year, so it's fitting. I do still have my crazy sweet tooth though, and I indulge on occasion. This beauty is a sampling of that indulgence:
Uh huh. That's an awesome Coconut doughnut from a local bakery. AMAZING!

If you live in a state that doesn't have these, I feel terrible for you. They're amazing. At least, I think they are. Every Friday night at bowling league I toss in $20. It goes to the local Lion's Club so if I lose, no biggie. Except it's not often that I lose. Haha. Drives Tyler crazy, but I love it. Example from last weekend:

So there you have it. There's my life as of late.

Happy Wednesday, all!

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

In the last week, I've really kicked myself into high gear, without overly disrupting my life.

It's been good. Better than good. Amazing.

Back in January I made the goal to lose weight. While I didn't jump right on the bandwagon, I have now, and I'm dedicated to it.

I've been really focusing on my eating first during this last week. Tyler and I got a workout in on Sunday morning (where I had a burn of 911, not bad!) but for the most part, that's it. I usually like to nail down my eating, and then incorporate workouts shortly thereafter.

And I've realized if you focus, you can "treat" yourself a bit and not go overboard. On Saturday night, Tyler and I went out with a couple of his friends to the Green Mill (pizza place). Tyler ordered pizza, I had one slice of that and a house salad. I was able to treat myself a little, but not go crazy. And it made me appreciate that pizza a whoooooole lot more!

When I stepped on the scale this morning, I was pleasantly surprised.

I was down 4.4 pounds. 4.4!

I started out my mission by ordering a new one of these:

Buy one on Amazon Here

I've gone through THREE of these books in the past and I love them. I know there's all kinds of apps out there (and I've tried a couple), but there's something about actually writing down what you're eating and the exercise you're doing.

Here's my entry from yesterday:

Pretty simple stuff to fill out.

The other thing I'd recommend picking up is a food scale. I NEVER measure my food, I weigh it. Always. With a lot of foods, you'll actually realize you get MORE when you weigh than when you measure. Kind of cool.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox. I'm just excited, and motivated.

Tonight, I'll be hitting up the gym, going home to make dinner (chicky and sweet potatoes!) and then snuggling in for The Bachelor (by the way, I think Clare needs to leave).

I'm the kinda girl who...

So I've been a little MIA. I've been busy, I haven't really wanted to write, I haven't felt like I had much to write.

HOWEVER! Catching up on the blogs I follow, I realized a theme. Everyone was doing this "I'm the kinda girl who..." thing. I'm going to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon, see where it takes me.

Here we go. I'm the kinda girl who...

  • Hits the snooze button TWICE, every day.
  • Loathes voice mails. Loathes. Unless it's super important, don't do it. I hate the icon that stays plastered on my phone and I hate logging in to check messages. I'll call you back, or shoot me a text.
  • Still listens to Hanson. And loves it.
  • Would rather stay in for a good flick than go out on the town.
  • Will always choose the "pink" option (if available) over any other color. Except seafoam green... sometimes that color gets me.
  • Loves roadtrips. I'd almost rather hop in the car and drive than get on a plane.
  • Likes to rub shoulders with the old grey-hairs at Bingo. And yes, I choose the pink dauber.
  • Is a realist. Some people confuse it with pessimism, but really, I'm just stating the facts.
  • Loves "food scents".... except vanilla.
  • Thinks magnets are awesome - they're the only thing I buy on vacation. T shirts are overrated, and I'm not big on knick-knacks.
  • Makes her bed every day.
  • Owns more shoes than necessary. Right now, I know I have three pairs new in the boxes in my closet.
  • Will cry during movies. Not like, hysterically cry... but I may shed a tear or two.
  • Likes video games. I'm not good at them, and they will frustrate me, but I have fun.
  • Isn't the greatest at showing emotions.
  • Is addicted to shopping on Amazon, ever since starting a Prime account a year ago.
  • Loves the smell of Play-Doh, gasoline, and blown-out candles. Yea, I'm weird.
On a roadtrip - in Louisville!

There you have it. That was only mildly embarrassing.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day. Ooftah.

To try to get myself in the spirit a little more, I found this short questionnaire over on Kelly's blog, Kelly's Kinda Crazy, and I thought I'd share my answers with you all!

I celebrate Valentine's Day by... Well, this year will be my first Valentine's Day in quite some time where I'm actually in a relationship. I'm not a huge "Woohoo, Valentine's Day!!!" kind of person, but I am looking forward to it. Tyler and I will be going out for dinner, and then doing something we both love (and do frequently), bowl.

My heart goes pitter-patter for... small, seemingly insignificant things. I don't want to be showered with gifts, I don't need to be wined and dined, I truthfully just want the attention. I crave the "just because" text messages, light touches, random kisses, hand holding, blah blah blah.

When looking for romance, my best advice is... find someone who can be your best friend AND your partner. If you can't have a solid, really good friendship with someone, how do you expect your relationship to last?

My favorite love story (real or fiction} is... the one in the movie, Cold Mountain. Inman, a soldier in the Civil War, goes off to war shortly after meeting Ada Monroe. They don't spend a whole lot of time together before he leaves, but the little they do keeps them longing to be with each other once again. He fights his way back to be with her, and nearly dies doing so. They're able to spend a night together however, Inman is killed and dies in the arms of Ada.

The best relationship/love/dating advice I ever received was...communicate, communicate, communicate. Communication is such a key part of any relationship (I think). Open and honest communication really strengthens a relationship and shows the trust you have in eachother

Tonight, I can't wait to spend the evening with main squeeze, Tyler. It's going to be a good day.

@ our second Wild Game last week!

Happy Valentine's Day, all!

Phone Case of The Month Review

A couple weekends ago I picked up a new, shiny white Samsung Galaxy S4. I couldn't help but say "yes" when I heard they had some in stock.

When it comes to phones... I love phone cases. Especially when there's a plethora of styles available at the click of the mouse. I'm also a subscription box addict.

Enter Phone Case of the Month.

Phone Case of the Month is a subscription service available to iPhone and Galaxy owners. The styles of phones supported are:

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4s
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy S4

The premise behind this subscription is each month, you get a new, surprise case in the mail.

I had to check this out and see what it was all about.

To my surprise, the case shipped quickly from Las Vegas and when it arrived, I was really pleased with the quality and the design of the case (they only  make about 200 of each design).

I love that they keep the case hidden in these little bags

Boom! And I love it. I'm a biking fan so it works well for me. Even if you aren't, the photo is terribly cute.

I'm pretty excited to get next month's.

Now, here comes the fun part. Here's a link for my referral: Katie's PCOTM Referral Code

Take it or leave it. But here's the benefit: If you use my link, YOU get $5 off your first month, and I get $5 off my next month. There's a benefit for both of us here. But like I said, take it or leave it. I know some people are weird about using referral links (no idea why) but it's here if you want it.

I wasn't paid to do this review, PCOTM hasn't given me anything. I simply stumbled upon their service, gave it a try, and I love it! There's no minimum commitment, so at least for $5 (shipping included) you can give it a shot.

Enjoy your day!!

Liebster Award!

Good morning, all and Happy Wednesday!!!

I surprisingly got a message the other day from Jessica Noelle over at Epiphaneia notifying me that she nominated me for a Liebster Award! I've never communicated with Jessica Noelle nor visited her blog so I was a little shocked! But, I'm definitely looking forward to participating

The Rules:
  1. You must link back the person that nominated you.
  2. You must answer the 11 questions given by the nominee before you.
  3. You pick 11 nominees with under 200 followers to answer your questions.
  4. You cannot nominate the person who nominated you.
  5. You must tell the nominees that they have been nominated by you.

Jessica Noelle's Questions:
  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Hmm. That's tough. I think I'd say Australia, but I know that's a HUGE stretch.
  2. Who is your celebrity crush? I honestly don't really have one. Of course, there's a lot of eye candy out there but I don't really have a "crush".
  3. What alcohol can you never drink again and why? Gin. It tastes like pine needles. Enough said.
  4. If you could shop free at one store, which store would you choose? Probably Target. Why? That's the ONE store I can never walk in and out of without spending at least like $50
  5. What smell reminds you of your childhood? Wet basement. Sounds weird, but it reminds me of my grandma Lola's basement and there's some GREAT memories at grandma Lola's
  6. What is something new that you would like to try this year? I really want to try Spin class at the gym. I love biking outside, I want to see what Spin is all about.
  7. For what reasons would you block someone on Facebook? I've only ever blocked a few people. I've blocked people for being not who I thought they were.... people who have changed their attitude, have become sudden jerks. Ain't nobody got time for that.
  8. What is your go-to karaoke song? I don't sing karaoke. Ever. And you don't want me to.
  9. What is the meaning behind your blog name? My blog is strictly a lifestyle blog. I came up with House. Life. Girl. because my intentions are to share stuff around my house as it changes, my life, etc.
  10. What is your guilty pleasure reality show? It was Sister Wives until I ran out of Netflix episodes. Then Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Now it's Teen Mom. Ugh.
  11. What quote do you live by? There's a lot of quotes I like. "Guns don't kill people. People kill people" and "Que sera, sera"
My Nominees!:
My Questions:
  1. What is your go-to song when you need a pick-me-up?
  2. Where is the WORST place you've ever visited and why?
  3. Do you add people you really don't know on Facebook? Why/why not?
  4. What is your favorite "kind gesture" a person can do for you?
  5. Coke or Pepsi?
  6. What album is on your phone/ipod or in your car that you really wouldn't want to admit to having?
  7. What is your favorite scent and where is it from (candle, perfume, food, etc)?
  8. What is your sports team of choice?
  9. Tell me your favorite wintertime lipcare product.
  10. When is your birthday?
  11. What's your favorite holiday and corresponding memory?
I look forward to reading everyone's answers! Thanks again to Jessica Noelle for nominating me!!

Random 5

It's Friday. Amen to that!

I've been going back and forth on what to do for my Five on Friday. Do I go with a theme? All random? Ugh.

Because I tend to do themes, I'm going to go the route of being random.

{one} Public Apology
Last week in my Five, I covered off on "5 Things I'm Currently Into". I inadvertently put Tyler as #5. I didn't include the caveat that my interests were in NO particular order. Tyler called me out on fact that I put him below things like Rumchata and Sudoku? Oooftah. So here it is Tyler, your public apology: I'm sorry :o)

{two} Super Bowl
I know we are all (maybe all) getting ready for the big game this weekend Broncos vs Seahawks. I need to make two desserts to bring to a SB party at one of my "couple friends'" house. I'm normally the type of person who jumps at the opportunity to bake her heart out and "wow" the friends... but I'm just not in the mood. Does anyone have any (simple) suggestions? I won't go the route of buying a dessert (gasp!) but I don't want to spend my entire Saturday in the kitchen.

From the blog, Taste and Tell, here's one of the things I'm considering:

Red Velvet Cheese Ball

Taste and Tell Blog
It looks yummy, sounds pretty easy to make, and I'm guessing it's something a lot of people would enjoy. Whenever baking for a large group (especially of people I don't really know), I try to shy away from the nuts, coconut, peanut butter...

I'll have to dig through Taste and Tell some more. If you guys haven't visited Deborah's blog, please do! Lots of yummy recipes!

{three} Bath and Body Works Candles

I'm addicted. Straight up. Addicted. I just got more in the mail yesterday... Living Social had a "Free 14oz 3-wick candle with $20 purchase"... so I HAD to take advantage. If you want to, you can through tomorrow: https://www.livingsocial.com/sponsors/offers/163-Bath_Body_Works_Candle

I got one large candle in Caribbean Escape, a candle sleeve, 5 mini candles and a mini candle sleeve. I was already in the market for a candle sleeve so this just pushed me enough to place an order... ooftah.

Now on Living Social they also have a 30% off your online purchase coupon available... goodness.

{four} Chia

Chia seeds, chia pudding, chia bars, chia in yogurt...

So I kind of jumped on the chia train. Or tried. I know they have their health benefits, and for the most part they have little to no flavor.

Here's what I've come up with:

Health Warrior = AWESOME!

I tried their Chocolate Peanut Butter Chia Bar... it was great!!
{Health Warrior}

It's nice to have a small, filling snack that's great for on the go. At home I also have the Acai Berry and Coconut to try.

The downfall... they're a little expensive. But, I found them on sale at my local natural food store so they were definitely worth it. I'll be on the hunt online to find a good source!

Now, on the flip side... chia pudding... gross. I'm not going to get into it. But it has a glue-like texture with little seeds in it... blah. Not for me, no matter the health benefits... I'll benefit elsewhere. Hehe.

{five} Weekend

I'm pretty excited for this weekend. Tyler will be at my house and we kind of have a weekend planned, full of goodness.

Tonight we have his bowling league (which I love going to) and then we're going to just grab a 'za and maybe watch a movie.

Saturday we are going to go to my parents' house for a visit, do our Super Bowl baking and hang out a little bit. Then I'm going to see if I can strong arm him into going to Dave & Buster's for some arcade goodness (and I have a coupon so, no brainer!). Maybe I'll really stretch the limits and see if I can get him to play Dominion with me - he just got the game last week and taught me last weekend. What he doesn't fully know is I LOVED the game... and I'm secretly a dork who is into that kind of stuff. If you don't know what Dominion is, look it up on Amazon... though you might change what you think of me :o)

Sunday is the big game. The Super Bowl... but not until 5:30. So I'm not sure what all we will do, but we'll find something. Maybe just relax, who knows.

So there you have it. A pretty damn random 5 on Friday!

5 Things... On Friday!

Happy Friday, all!

First and foremost, I want to celebrate the birth of my FIRST niece, Hattie Rose. She was born early this morning - I've already been to the hospital to meet her and now I'm back to the grind!

What an adorable little button!

I've been noticing in a lot of the blogs I follow that people are doing a "Five Things on Friday" kind of post. So, I'm joining in and linking up with Five on Friday!

You'll Find In My (Work) Bag:

  1. Planner
  2. The North Face gloves (love love love these - buy them!)
  3. Vera Bradley wallet (again, LOVE!)
  4. Michael Kors sunnies
  5. Orbit gum (strawberry-banana kids stuff)

You'll Find In My Bedroom:
  1. King size bed
  2. Ramsey, likely laying on the bed
  3. Two dressers
  4. Sudoku and Crossword Books (I love doing these before bed)
  5.  Extra blankets

I've Always Wanted To Do:
  1. Visit Northern California
  2. Get married
  3. Learn how to crochet
  4. Have children
  5. Travel somewhere... tropical

Things I'm Currently Into:
  1. Rumchata with root beer
  2. Sudoku
  3. Bowling
  4. Anything on Netflix
  5. Tyler

Quirks I Have:
  1. I like when things are lined up in the fridge, labels facing forward. I also tend to organize the contents in a certain way... condiments, drinks, veggies, cheese, dairy products, breads... they all get grouped together.
  2. Office supplies. I LOVE office supplies. I especially love Ink Joy and Flair pens. Crayola stuff is pretty rockin', too.
  3. I prefer paper planners over digital planners (on a phone or otherwise). They're generally easier to flip through, you can use fun pens (see #2) to write in them. They're just better.
  4. I collect Pez dispensers. I own over 500 of them. They're fun.
  5. The cube at my work is full of crap. Random crap. Tiny dinosaurs, posters, books, signs, pages from my desk calendar, photos... I should probably sort through the stuff, but I can't bring myself to toss anything. EEEEK!

So there you have it. That's meeeee!!

Enjoy your day/weekend!!

When You Have Something To Say

It drives me absolutely bonkers when I have something to say but no confidence to say it. Usually they're comments or thoughts I just want to talk about or mention. Random thoughts.

I'm a pretty upfront, honest, "willing to chat it out" kind of person. Usually.

Oh well. I just had to get that off my chest because I'm going insane. Haha.

I took yesterday (MLK Day) off because Tyler is one lucky guy who has a holiday that day and we decided to extend our weekend. Which was a great weekend! Here's why:

After work, Tyler and I hit up the Wild game. I hadn't been to one in a few years and we scored pretty decent tickets! And they won. What could be better than that?

Went to Tyler's bowling league again. Won $302 on pulltabs (only tossed in $40 overall so I'd say that's not too bad!).  We picked up a pizza and went back to my house for the night and vegged.

Tyler met my parents for the first time. Word on the street is, they really liked him. Phew! After hanging out at their house for a few hours, we went to Tyler's for the rest of the weekend. He lives about 40 minutes away so we've started alternating who's place we stay at.

Sunday I'd be meeting Tyler's parents for the Seahawks/49ers game so I started working on my oreo cheesecake. I got that baby all baked up (and it smelled delish!). I wish I would have taken a picture!

Around 9:30 we hit up the bowling alley with Tyler's friend, Andy. We all bowled pretty darn well (I had two of my highest games ever, a 176 and a 177) and I fell in love with RumChata. I also ran into an old coworker, which was kind of fun!

In the AM Tyler and I got the crockpot going for our French Dips we were making for the game. After that we basically just hung out and played some WiiU. I finished up the cheesecake and his parents came over for the game. I was really, really nervous to meet them. It's been a while since I've had to do the whole "meet the parents" thing. My goodness! All of the food turned out to be pretty darn good and I really enjoyed meeting his parents.

Due to having the day off, Tyler and I set off for the Mall of America. We did a little shopping, played a little mini golf (he kicked my butt after all my crap talk) and did some people watching. It was a great day to be at the mall!

All in all, it was a great weekend! It's very sad to say that it went quickly, but I'm already looking forward to next weekend. Hopefully this short week at work will speed by!

Netflix Guilt

Since I got internet service at my house back in November (after almost 3 years without) I've been addicted to Netflix. Some shows I catch myself watching are awesome while others... well, I'm mildly embarrassed to have people see them on my Recently Viewed or Instant Queue list.

Today, I'm going to share with the world what I've been watching. Don't be too hard on me - hah!

Linking up with The Good Life for Five on Friday!

{one} Breaking Bad
We've already talked about this one. I whipped through all of the Netflix episodes plus the final 8 that aren't currently available on there in about.... three weeks. Now, that's 62 episodes, about 44 minutes each, over three weeks. I. WAS. A. LOSER. But hell, it's an awesome show. Don't judge. Try it yourself. You'll get hooked too.

{two} Sister Wives
I have no idea how I stumbled upon this one... or why I felt the need to watch every episode available. I think the majority of the time I sat there wondering to myself, "Why exactly would a person want this?" I'm 100% 'cool' with what they're doing. More power to 'em. I just couldn't imagine living a lifestyle where I have to essentially share my spouse (and my kids) with other women. A total foreign concept to me. BUT, the show had it's entertaining moments and it was good background noise if nothing else.

{three} Desperate Housewives
An oldie and a goodie. I didn't really watch this show when it first came out, rather, I caught some of the later episodes. I've started back at Season 1 and I'm only in about 9-10 episodes. I'm sure this one will be my latest Netflix addiction. I can't help but wonder what's going to happen next on Wisteria Lane.

{four} Keeping Up With The Kardashians
For me, this is the most shameful one. Again, I don't know how it happened. I cruised through all of these episodes AND Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami (or whatever the heck the name is). I think the drama attracted me. I understand it's a pretty fake, set up show... but what's not to like about drama that isn't yours? That, and I was always wondering what that douche, Scott Disick, would do next.

{five} Lipstick Jungle
Let me just say this: I can't believe this show got cancelled. I think they only got a couple seasons out of it, but I LOVED the show when it was on. I've found myself watching an episode here or there and I still love it like I did when I first watched episodes on TV. Huge bummer.

If you're ever bored... give these a shot. Or not, whatever floats your boat.

Happy Friday, all!!

2014 Goals

I promised a while back that I would go over my goals for 2014. I hate to call them resolutions, because they never seem to stick. So, goals they are.

There you have it. My goals for 2014. They're pretty high level, maybe a little ambiguous. That's OK with me - it leaves more room to feel success than if I were to put precise goals down. I figure, if you feel as though you're failing or have failed to reach your goal... you'll give up. Maybe that's just me. We'll see.

What are your 2014 goals? Any "musts" this year?

Happy Thursday!!

Coming Clean

I've decided that I just need to come clean. It's better than avoidance or lying.

There's a guy.

Not just any guy. A great guy. I don't know that I've smiled, laughed, and felt so happy. I may be slightly smitten, but don't you dare try to get me to admit it.

A guy who offers to DVR The Bachelor at his house for me because I'm likely going to miss it... wow. Didn't even have to ask. He just offered and even set it as a "definitely record" show so it will kick off any of his shows. Sometimes, it's these small gestures that mean the most to girls. I'm one of those girls.

Speaking of his house, I can basically navigate that thing like a champ because even though he lives about 35 minutes from me... his place was made by the same builder as mine, in the same year, and has some creepy similarities. Haha.

So yea, sorry for my absence... but I'm busy bowling, going to dinner, relaxing to a good flick, playing some games at Dave & Buster's and enjoying my life outside of cyberspace.

Now that I have a computer at home, I'm going to try to be more cognizant about keeping this thing updated. And hey, maybe while the guy plays his video games, I can be busy preparing for what's next here on House. Life. Girl.

That is, until he gets another controller for that fancy schmancy Xbox One.

Better get on that, Tyler.

Linking up!!

Happy Monday, all!

No Spend January

Ugh. It's January. And this my friends, is my SECOND reminder of what I should be doing

Life According to Steph

Last year I did my own "NO Spend January". My whole premise behind it was... throughout November and December with the holidays, money flies out the window. Flies. I took January to kind of reset my base, get out of the habit of spending, spending, spending.... and it worked.

Now, I didn't go out and cancel services I was already committed to, rather, I focused on only spending money on the things I needed that didn't have a set expenditure each month:
  • Bills (utilities and such that vary)
  • Groceries
  • Gas
  • $20 bonus cash a week (at the beginning of the month, take out $80 cash in 20's, tuck them away and pull out one a week)
Did I NEED the $20 bonus cash? Heck yes no. But, it allowed me to "budget in" impromptu lunches with the girls at work, a trip to the Redbox, maybe an evening out bowling? It kept my head in the game and didn't allow me to feel worn out because of the whole thing.

Right before Christmas break my coworker and I were chatting about No Spend January. She reminded me that January was coming up and asked if I was doing it again. I had totally forgotten that I did it last year! At that point I wasn't sure...

Then I see the January Spending Freeze. Ugh. Reminder #2.

I know it's already the 3rd of January, and I kind of screwed up No Spend January by doing this:
Really, who can say 'no' to a sale??
BUT, I figure it's better late than never and what's done is done. Going forward, I'm going to hop on the No Spend January bus.

I must say, it's going to be tough. Real tough. Here in Minnesota it's been freaking freezing so you can really only do things indoors... and unless you stay home... indoor activities usually cost money. Movies, Shopping, Restaurants/Bars, Bowling... I'll have to very wisely spend my $20 bonus cash each week.

Here's just how cold the next few days are going to be. Awesome.

With only $20, guess I'll have to shy away from bars (unless it's 2 for 1's, haha), dating, dining out... ugh. Here we go.

I'll report back at the end of the month to let you know how it goes!
