Hello Friday!

Thank goodness it's Friday.

Well, I had yesterday off work, so who am I to complain?

Yesterday was great. Let me put it this way. My mom is pretty much my best friend. My mom and I like to shop. And shop, we did!

We were kind of all over town, picking up Christmas gifts, checking out a few things for ourselves, even stopped by the hardware store for some special vanity bulbs for in her newly decked out bathroom. We were gone from 8am until about 7pm running errands and such. For lunch, we stopped by a cafe and had grilled sandwiches and planned for the afternoon. It was a great day spent with mom!

In the evening we went over to my brother & sister-in-law's house to get our hair cut and colored.

Let me put it this way.

I got banged. Hahaha.

I haven't had bangs since elementary school. It's going to be a change... but I think I like it!

Anyway.

Can you guys believe Christmas is in less than a week? I feel like it really sneaked up on me this year! I have a couple things yet to chase down, but otherwise I'm all set! I need to wrap gifts and for our family Christmas get together I have two appetizers I'm going to make: Chicken & Spinach Pinwheels and Jalapeno Popper Dip. Pretty excited!

Have a great weekend, all!!

Today is the day

Today... is a pretty big day.

Well, to most... it's just any other day. And really, to me, it should be just any other day. But it's not.

Today is the day I go back to the gym.

In all honesty, I haven't been to the gym in a couple of months. I have no idea how I've gone that long without as I was SO connected before (well, I was sick for about 4 weeks).

So today I'll be jamming out to some tunes with my water bottle by my side and HRM strapped on.

I need to keep something in mind...

Yes, if I put in the time and efforts to workout regularly and eat more "clean", then results follow.

Speaking of "clean" eating... I try to eat as clean as I can. Lots of protein, mainly from chicken (some fish), veggies and some fruits. Aside from the tortillas I loooooove, I've turned over to Ezekiel bread.

Have you tried Ezekiel bread? If not, check it out here. There's no added sugars (most breads have these!!), no trans fat or cholesterol, no fat, low sodium... and once you get past the initial shock of the Ezekiel bread (trust me, it's not like normal bread), you'll love it. I currently only eat the Cinnamon Raisin kind (usually for breakfast with a little PB2) as I don't really eat many sandwiches or the like. It is a bit more expensive, but I find Trader Joe's to be a great place to buy it if there's one close by. Otherwise grocery stores are usually $1.50-2 more. And no, I'm not getting paid to say this. I really like the stuff! Had it with a protein shake this morning!

Sooooo yea. Today I'll be back in the gym, hitting it up again. I want to get back into the gym 4x per week. I was doing like 5-6 but eh... I don't want to get burnt out. 4x is good. Mmhmm.

We shall see. I've done it before, just need to dive back in!

I need a weekend at home

I miss my house. I miss my couch. I miss Ramsey. I miss relaxation.

This weekend was a little much.

It was a cookie baking/decorating extravaganza on Saturday, followed by an evening at the local watering hole, and then a bathroom tear-down on Sunday.

The cookies were a success, as always. We decorated a bunch of cutouts, made molasses cookies and those peanut butter kiss cookies. All tasty little delights!!

While we were wrapping up the cookie day, we decided that the following day we'd tear apart the bathroom and redo it. We were going to wait until after Christmas... but really, why wait when there's tomorrow?!?

What a mess.

My mom is hosting Christmas this year, so we better get this into shape. I'll post pics when all is said and done. Good thing I'm off work on Thursday!

I think the highlight of my weekend was playing pulltabs at the bar... pulled a $102 winner after tossing in $20. Not bad, not bad!

By the end of the weekend... I was exhausted. So, I got home around 7pm and plowed through the last 3 episodes of Breaking Bad on Netflix. They really leave you hanging and I'm dying to get my hands on the final episodes. Damn you Netflix!!

Blogmopolitan Quiz

Quizzes. Who doesn't love quizzes?

I saw this thing floating around so I figured I may as well go ahead and fill it out - and it was fun!

I'm going to go ahead and link up with Erin over at Two Thirds Hazel for this one!

On another note, today is like my mini Friday. I have tomorrow off as my mom and I are going to go to the casino for the night. Do some gambling, probably have a cocktail or two. Should be a good night! Hopefully I end up on the winning side!

I'll be back to the office on Friday though... whomp whomp. But hey, at least it will be Friday, right?!

Another Weekend Gone

I felt like I was going nonstop, all weekend. The weekend was here, and then gone. Bah. Oh well, all in all it was a good one...

Margaritas & Mexican with Matt on Friday night. We then tried to go to the bar by my house... but it was DEAD. They had some MMA/UFC crap playing instead of music and the place only had about 20 people in it. Whomp, whomp. I was home and in bed by 10:30

Saturday I spent the majority of the day prepping for the holiday party later that night. I baked, and I baked.

Look at that color!

I made pistachio-cherry bundt cake and cinnamon sugar pretzels!

I should have taken pictures at the party... but honestly... it was kind of dull. I picked up my friend, Andrea, and we drove about an hour out to our friends' house in Wisconsin. In the freezing cold (seriously, it was -14 here). We hung out for a few hours and then headed back home

Sunday I bundled up  on my way out the door to hang out with my mom (surprise, surprise). We did our usual eBay stuff but also set up the family Christmas tree (which I always look forward to).

Seriously, this cold weather sucks.
While doing our eBay stuff, I came across these beauties my mom bought in the early 90's

How awesome are those? Haha.

Oh, and my mom had this proudly hanging in the hallway. Always makes me smile

All in all, it was a good weekend. Nothing spectacular, but it's a little hard to do anything amazing when there's subzero temperatures going on outside.

Five on Friday: Movie Edition

TGIF!

I didn't post yesterday. Not because I didn't want to, I just didn't really have anything particularly awesome to say.

Today, however, is a different story. My recent addition to Netflix has spurred many movie thoughts so for Five on Friday, I'm going to share my top five favorite, all time movies (in no particular order, of course)

Please be sure to let me know if there's any "must see" movies I should check out, especially if they're available on Netflix!

Here we go!

[one] Cold Mountain

So, I really dislike Nicole Kidman. Really dislike. But what's better than a Civil War love story? The soldier, Inman, goes off to war after meeting Ada Monroe whom he falls in love with. The story basically follows his journey back to her. This is definitely a movie I can watch over and over again. It's on the longer side, but it's great for an afternoon or evening where you just want to cuddle up for a flick.

[two] Forrest Gump

Alright so if you haven't seen this movie... shame on you. If you  have, you know that this is a story about a man name Forrest who seems to have a presence in a lot of historical places and meets a lot of historical figures (Vietnam War, Elvis Presley, President Kennedy, John Lennon.... the list goes on). He has all of these experiences and the one thing on his mind the entire time... Jenny.

[three] Shawshank Redemption

Who doesn't love Andy Dufresne? Andy is an everyday banker who is convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. He becomes friends with another man in prison, Red, and becomes a "reformed" prisoner of sorts after he helps the warden launder money.

[four] Dirty Dancing

"Baby" goes to a resort with her family where she meets the resident camp instructor, Johnny Castle (what a dreamy name, right??!). Baby is from a straight-laced, upper class family while Johnny is from the other side of the tracks. Needless to say, they fall in love, and basically have to prove to her family that he's the man for her. Afterall, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner"

[five] House of 1000 Corpses

I bet you didn't expect this one, huh? What can I say, I'm a fan of movies that mess with your mind a little bit. House of 1k Corpses follows two couples of young adults as they search for a local legend, Dr. Satan. They end up being "helped out" by a stranger, only to be lead to a house with a bunch of psychotic adults. I'll let you watch to find out the rest :)

So there you have it. Some of my favorite flicks!

Definitely let me know if there are some greats out there I should check out on Netflix. I'm always looking for something new to get hooked on

Bundle Up

Well. It's here.

Looking on the bright side, at least it's not freezing cold... right??!?

I must say, I love the way downtown looks in the winter. There's something so pretty about it. Maybe because in the summer there isn't a lot of green space... but with the snow covering up the parking lots and sidewalks...

It's supposed to snow throughout the day, and into the night. It will be interesting to see how many inches we get. Any guesses??? I'm going to guess 5.5".

If you're reading this from anywhere snowy... stay bundled up, drive save, and lookout for "the other guy" as I like to say

As long as I can't do this by the time it's done snowing... it's all good. And I just love cat gifs...

Linking up with Shanna to share this snowy randomness!!!

Well Hmm

I truly wish I had something amazing to say today.

Yesterday... was kind of a let down.

It snowed. Snowed enough for me to have to shovel the soaking wet 1.5" of white stuff off my driveway at 10:30pm.

I did make some chocolate chip banana bread though... nom!

And guess what? It's going to snow some more today. Awesome. Maybe some rain, too, if we're lucky.
